Empowerment of Women is an organization designed to serve women, their children and loved ones that are suffering at the hands of abuse within the community and surrounding areas. We are a non-profit organization and our focus is on the prevention and breaking the cycle of domestic violence. Throughout history domestic violence has been an issue that many are too ashamed, too afraid, or lacks the necessary support which enables them to break free from the cycle. Abuse is a dangerous cycle that shows itself in various forms which oftentimes victims are not even aware that abuse is occurring.

Abuse can be psychological through words, stalking, or attacking an individual’s weaknesses. Financial abuse occurs when control of all the finances are through the man regardless of who makes the income or when the woman is prohibited from working outside of the home or if he makes it mandatory that she is to be the sole provider for the family and there are many that are not even aware that this is also a form of abuse. Physical abuse is the result of pain inflicted through bodily injury. All forms of abuse have devastating and lifelong effects on the lives of those who are direct victims and even those that are affected indirectly such as the loved ones.

It is estimated that one out of every three women daily are killed at the hands of their boyfriends or spouses in the United States and that the numbers for children is a staggering estimated 15.5 million who live with or have witnessed violence within the past year and at that least seven million children reside in homes where domestic abuse occurs (Futures without Violence, 2011).
