Thomas Paine’s idea was that government was a necessary evil for a society because without government no one would do what needed to be done just because they felt like it people need rules and a leader. He believed that the simpler the government was the easier it would be to run and less likely it would be to become disorganized; therefore it would easier to repair if it did become disorganized. He stated that monarchy brought the king away from the means of information, yet required him to make decisions that he needs to know a lot of information to make, as well the king gets shut out from the world yet he must know it very well. He talks about how he is not the first to speak out or write about the struggle between America and England, that men of all types have spoken about the controversy with different motives, but the time of debate is over and fighting is the only option left. It is also stated in the document that “the sun has never shined on a cause of greater worth” and that is not a county or a city but the continent that is affected by England. Paine speaks of how some people believe that England has protected them but Paine points out that they did not protect America for Americas benefit but for their own because they were not Americas enemies but England’s enemies, in which America had no controversy with other then England controlled them, and that they only protected America because they wanted the goods from America and the power over America. Paine believed America should make peace with France and Spain, who are at war with Great Britain. Paine states that some believe that England is the parent country of America which he points out that England’s actions are even worse when looked at that way “for even brutes do not devour their children nor savages make war with their families” he stated that England started that to make us believe it even if it is not true.
