Hewlett Packard’s Top leadership, Past and Present

William R. Hewlett

(1913-2001)

Co-founded HP with David Packard.

With David Packard, William R. (Bill) Hewlett was co-founder of Hewlett-Packard Company. Hewlett resigned as president in 1977, and retired as chief executive officer in 1978 in accordance with his previously announced plans for management succession within HP. He then served as chairman of HP's Executive Committee until 1983, when he became vice chairman of the HP board of directors. In 1987, he was named director emeritus, and he served in that position until his death on January 12, 2001.

David Packard

(1912-1996)

Co-founded HP with William Hewlett.

With Bill Hewlett, David Packard was co-founder of Hewlett-Packard Company. In September 1993, he retired as chairman of the board and was named chairman emeritus. He served in that position until his death on March 26, 1996.

John A. Young

John A. Young was president of Hewlett-Packard Company from 1977 to 1992, and chief executive officer from 1978 to 1992.

Lewis E. Platt

(1941-2005)

Lewis E. (Lew) Platt was president and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard Company from 1992 to 1999. He also served as chairman of the board from 1993 to 1999.

Carleton S. Fiorina

Carleton S. (Carly) Fiorina was chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard Company from 1999 to 2005. She also served as chairman of the board from 2000 to 2005.

Robert P. Wayman

Robert P. Wayman was interim chief executive officer from February to March of 2005.

Mark V. Hurd

Mark V. Hurd was chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard Company from 2005 to 2010. He also served as chairman of the board from 2006 to 2010.

Cathie Lesjak

Cathie Lesjak was interim chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard Company from August to October 2010.
