What I hope to learn from the interview

I hope to learn more about police procedures and policies, about the court and judicial systems, what happens to a criminal from the point of arrest until sentencing, about prison systems, how to control prisoners, and how to help rehabilitate and counsel them.

The next thing I hope to learn is whether a career in Law Enforcement is really right for me. A career in law enforcement can be very rewarding, but it is not the safest or most relaxed career out there. I would hope to understand more about the risks involved, as well as the physical expectations. Since many people's lives are often at stake, I know that law enforcement officials who work in the field need to be in top physical condition and how to think on my feet, while still having a great deal of sympathy and compassion for not only the victims of crimes, but for those who are driven to commit crimes (often due to mental illness, abuse and/or poverty). In this profession, helping people means not only protecting them, but also helping them to make the right decisions through public awareness and education. This includes the ability to chase suspects, restrain criminals, and stay calm under pressure. I also know that in this I will have to become accustomed to encountering high-stress situations without panicking so hopefully I will get a better understanding of how to handle such situations.
