Job Redesign and Workplace Rewards Assessment

As I have mentioned in the past I am currently unemployed although I do remember a whole lot about my previous employer and how horrible the goal setting and reward system was. That was one of my main reasons for leaving that organization among others. My previous employer was the City of McAllen Municipal Court and my job title was Senior Clerk. Although the pay was great, it was not enough to keep myself and others from working there for the next 25 years.

As a senior clerk my responsibilities were to maintain each defendant’s files and make sure everything was intact and correct. If the file was incomplete then I would have to search the archives and make sure everything was together to file properly. Customer service was another main objective with high importance stressed on a daily basis. The municipal judge was the department head and was a bit crazy (in my opinion). Although she meant well, she was always putting the employees below her and it always seemed as if she was showing off her law degree when she knew that everyone else did not have a degree. There were times when she would have meetings to yell at us like little children. She would also yell at the older generation of employees whom were probably in their fifties or sixties which I believe was not very nice.

One of the main components that really bothered the judge was the amount of defendants that would come in on a daily basis. She felt that customer service was a huge issue because we (the employees) needed to make sure that every defendant that comes in is addressed the second they walk through the door. Although I agree with her on this, it was impossible because of the crazy lines we would have.
