Time Capsule for the Future
Introduction
My name is Sharon T., and I am a Black African American female. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA in the United States, where sports is the key. I am home to two champion teams the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. I am middle aged, and proud of it. My days start with getting up around 7am, go outside to find where the newspaper was thrown, checking in on my Mother, taking my meds, and then proceed to make breakfast that varies from a bowl of cereal to pancakes to eggs, bacon/sausage, biscuits, and grits. After cleaning up after breakfast I head to the calendar to see what doctors appointments are scheduled. I check for doctors appointments, because back in July 2010 I showed signs of breast cancer after taking my first mammography. Eventually, it was full-blown cancer after a multitude of test with lots of needles; yuck. As if that news did not beat all, my Mother was diagnosed with a tick-de-la-rue to her face, my Father died on my Moms and Aunts birthday; BITTERSWEET, bittersweet. Once all of this news somewhat settled in my soul, my whole outlook on life changed.
Growing up in a strict environment was more of a chore than what people may think. You had rules so stringent for a kid, that I did not understand them until I was almost grown. I was told not to speak to strangers, not to speak unless spoken to, whatever goes on in this house STAYS in this house, mind your manners, and stay out of grown folks business; to just name a few. I did not know up from down. At least that is what it felt like. Little did I know that I was getting lessons about life to carry with me for a life-time. You see, kids today have too much power. If their parents spank them, all they have to do is pick up the phone, and their folks could be lead to jail. In...
