Medicare
Medicare is a program of the national health insurance for people that are disabled and people who are 65 years and over. The program protects enrollees from expensive hospital and related care costs. This is provided by the Medicare basic program of hospital insurance, which provides financial aid for health care and doctor bills. Medicare was founded and established in 1965 from the passage of the Social Security Amendment.
Medicaid
Medicaid is a program which provides aid for families or individuals that have low-income and disabled and the elderly. This program is funded by the state and federal governments and those who meet the application requirements may receive the benefits. The Medicaid program is managed by each state independently and each have the ability to set their own guidelines and requirements.
Public health
Public health deals the community and its overall health as a whole which deals with the approach to medicine. The public health sector is comprised of many disciplines of professional expertise such as social work, environmental sciences, behavioral sciences, nursing, and medicine just to name a few. Public health main goal is to focus not on individual patients but rather on entire populations. The mission of public health according to WebMD (1996-2010), "is to fulfill society's interest in assuring conditions in which people can be healthy." (Med Terms Dictionary, Para).
Ambulatory care
Ambulatory care is a type of care given to individuals that are able to walk about and ambulate. This type of medical care is given on an outpatient basis and includes observation, rehabilitation and treatment and diagnosis.
