Cause and Effect-Personal Narrative

Skipping Class

Do you know students who skip class because they are tired? Do you have friends who don't come to class because they didn’t complete their assignments on time? Have you ever felt like you did not need college in life to succeed? Well, a few years ago my answer to all of those questions was yes. When a person routinely does not attend class it shows that they are not motivated to pursue adult responsibilities and it also shows a lack of focus on future career priorities.

Multiple distractions and immature behavior were the main causal factors that contributed to my deprived motivation to purse adult responsibilities. This led to consecutive missed classes which compounded my difficulty in keeping up with the demands of class work. On many occasions I would stay up late visiting with friends or playing video games, and then sleep in during the times I should have been in class. Sometimes even if I did wake up in time for class I didn’t have my assignments completed or was not prepared for a probable quiz. Another reason why I was unmotivated to go to class is that I felt like I didn’t need to learn new knowledge that the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) offered. As if this wasn’t enough to lead to failure, I was unmotivated to pursue adult responsibilities because I didn’t understand the value of the knowledge that college provides. I didn’t attend class because I felt like going to class was irrelevant to my life. Consequently, this was a big mistake I made because when you attend college you will always learn something new where you can introduce it into everyday life.

The second cause of me skipping class is that I lacked focus on career priorities. For the career that I want in life requires college. From my lack of focus on career priorities, I would go over to my friends house and hang out instead of attend class. So, if I had a pop quiz that day I would earn a zero on that...
