Street Survaillance-con

Im against street survaillance. Street Survaillance is when they put up cameras everywhere. They are used to prevent crimes and other issues. They can cause more trouble than they are trying to prevent. When cameras are mounted on street corners, majority of the time they monitor people engaged in innocent activities. However, these innocent activities may be confidential and personally damaging if the tapes fall into the wrong hands. Public spaces can be used as a meeting ground for lawyers, clients, reporters, sources, businesspeople and politicians who want to talk privately. Cameras also watch off-guard moments: a cigarette break or a kiss goodbye, which, at one point or another, mostly everyone has not wanted captured on video. You never know who is watching those cameras. Privacy is a privilege that most people take for granted we are entitled to, the right to have our own space, to be safe, and to be left alone. Putting these cameras up also replaces many individuals jobs. instead of hiring a guard or officer to watch over a business or to observe a crowded area, it would be easier for companies to install a camera. It is also cheaper to put cameras up than it is to hire more security guards and policemen. Also it would cost a fortune to put survaillance cameras on every street of ny. If people see cameras and they are doing something bad, they are more likely to vandalize them and you would need to buy new ones which cost alot and it would come out of the taxpayers money. I feel that sme of this money should be given to councils to provide better foster care so orphans are less likely to take the criminal route. OR it could be used for community projects to get kids away from the t.v. OR some money could be used for the police force and programmers for dtug addicts to get out of addiction , and back into life and away from crime. Cameras might bring some offenders into prison, but it wont prevent the crime...
