Short Story

Written Expression

I awoke to the alarm clock going off. It was an early Friday morning. I grumpily out of bed and headed for the shower in an attempt to wake myself up from a late party the previous night. As I got out of the shower I looked at the clock on the wall; right on schedule. Today will be a tough one, for I had two meetings with prospective employees, being the CEO at MRA and it being my job to make sure that everything runs smoothly. I have to go drop the truck off at the shop for it to get fixed, for it had been stolen and was joy-ridden. To make the day even more hectic, I am heading to Massachusetts for a family reunion right after work.

I arrived at work only to find that my parking spot had been taken by a big green suv. As I got out of my car, I glared at the windshield of the vehicle, and noticed on the parking permit that it belonged to a Jamal K. Vincent, the new VP of communications. This was his first day after I hired him last week. Annoyed that he took my spot, I parked next to him and headed inside. As I opened the door Jaime, the secretary greeted me and handed my agenda and off to my office I went. As I opened the door, the smell of a new car still lingered in the room from the carpet getting cleaned last week. As I hung up my coat and set my briefcase on my desk, the phone rang.

“Mr. Harrison, you have a phone call on line one.” Jaime pleasantly stated.

“Thank you Jaime.” I replied. I noticed that line one was blinking. I pressed it.

“Hello, this is Pete Harrison, How may I help you?”

“Hey Mr. Harrison, this it Donald from the Quick Fix Garage, your truck is just about ready for pick up, I just want to let you know that your brake lines will need to be replaced soon. If you want we can do them today, and get them out of the way, or we can schedule them another day.”
