I believe that Global Businesses are not responsible for addressing issues such as global poverty. I feel that Global Businesses are responsible for satisfying their stockholders by being profitable and maintaining their integrity through their mission and vision statements. The local governments and communities should take more of the responsibility to help solve the poverty rate in their areas. Other factors that also affect global poverty that is not fully controlled by global companies are the economy, politics, social issues, and cultures. However, it is in the global businesses’ best interest to help address the global poverty issue to a certain extent. Helping to end poverty would likely help global businesses because it could help them increase their market share, increase their customer base, and earn more money in the future. If a global business is directly associated with a cause of global poverty in a certain area, then they should be held responsible by the international community to help resolve the issue. For example, the BP oil spill was caused by BP so they should be held responsible for cleaning up the area and helping the local business gain back their customer base.

Actions should be taken even if companies incur financial cost because they can gain in other areas. For example, companies can gain goodwill by being socially responsible. It’s important for global businesses to also evaluate their companies’ values and make sure that taken these actions will meet their goals as an organization. While evaluating what actions to take if any at all it is important to make sure that their core business strategies will not be affected in a negative way. If the company cannot continue to operate efficiently then they will not be able to help make financial contributions.
