A Proposal to Abolish Grading

This article focuses on abolishing grading and only using testing as teachers see fit. I feel that this is not a good idea, because grading is a means of letting people know how they are doing within the class. Grades show where help is needed and also shows the strengths. There are people who are able to memorize information that is given about a subject and can do extremely well on the test that is given, but on the other hand, there are some people who may do well in class but do not do well on the test. Mr. Good touches on how will employers know who to hire if grading is abolished, but employers don’t look at grades, they only see where your degree came from and it is up to you to perform to the best of you ability and that in turn will tell how well you did in school.

Grading has become an extreme anxiety too many. First you have parents who make children feel bad if they don’t get the grades that they want them to get, and then you have some teachers who use grades as a means of intimidation instead of giving extra assistance to the child who may not do so well on the test, but does well in class assignments. Abolishing the grading system helps to locate a persons weakness, but at the same time, some extra needed assistance will help with that weakness and not encourage a student to cheat or plagiarize because of a low grade.
