ENTREPRENEURIAL LEADERSHIP

This document presents a discussion about Entrepreneurial Leadership. As so many authors have observed in the past decade, in many traditional and most new industries, we have seen an unprecedented increase in the rate of new technology development. This has been accompanied by a general acceleration in the pace of competition. As Brown and Eisenhardt (1998) point out, in many industries it is no longer feasible to think that analytical planning will lead to competitive success, and therefore planning needs to be much more experimental (McGrath,1997). In those industries that face substantively increasing uncertainty and competitiveness the power of analytical leadership is diminished and there is emerging an increasing demand for the type of business leaders. In fact, what is entrepreneurial leadership? “Entrepreneurial leadership creates visionary scenarios that are used to assemble and mobilize a supporting cast of participants who become committed by the vision to the discovery and exploitation of strategic value creation. There will be a discussion about the theory which combines the common elements found in the thinking of Case, Kouses, and Drucker. An evaluation of the resources and tools available through the Small Business Administration and SCORE, and a determination of single resource or tool which is most useful to the greatest number of businesses. Finally, a list of leadership best practices that would apply to the greatest number of businesses will be recommended.

The Entrepreneurial Approach

The strongest common element found in all the three entrepreneurs’ way of thinking is the notion that people are critical in the success of a business.
