Decision in Paradise Part I

In the South Pacific is the island country of Kava. The community on Kava is resilient because it has endured many disasters and obstacles. ITT Technologies desires to expand by building a production facility on the island. The expansion would help the stakeholders and the company increase profits; however, it would provide help to the community on Kava as well. A new production plant placed on the island provides an opportunity to cut costs of production while at the same time improving the lives of the local residents through profit allocation. Kava’s government issued breaks, such as low cost licenses and tax breaks, to induce new businesses into its economy. Since ITT Technologies is a global company, I believe a subsidiary in Kava would be an intelligent investment.

Recently Kava has seen many natural disasters, which resulted in the ravagement of the island and hardships within the community. Should ITT Technologies install a production facility in Kava the local residents would have the needed job opportunities. ITT Technologies could offer wages that are lower than other facilities, but still higher than current job opportunities in Kava. A share of the profits could then be put into the disaster relief efforts, education, and community centers on the island.

The obstacles blocking the path of ITT Technologies to be a successful production facility are not insurmountable. Most notably is the difference between the education level of the residents and the needed education level of some of the jobs within the facility. Fortunately, the island residents are hard working and dedicated to everything they do in their lives, so they will be inexpensive quality labor.
