1. Share some of the background of your interviewee (or couple). What was this person’s/couple’s “story”? [300 words]

Rose is a recovering addict who was brought up in the Catholic Christian faith. Rose is 57 years old and has 11 years of sobriety from abuse of heroin and other opiates. Rose really struggled with step 2 of the 12 step program because she had many questions about her higher power and she felt her questions were not answered through the Catholic Church. During Rose’s active addiction, she struggled with problems in her marriage as her husband was in active addiction as well. Through her husband’s adultery, Rose contracted several STD’s and solicited herself as well. Rose has turned to the Jehovah’s Witness faith in order to embrace her higher power and feels that this has been the only faith that has provided her understanding of who and what her higher power means to her. Rose currently enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren and she is very active in her Kingdom Hall and her home group in the Harrisburg Area. Additionally, Rose has been a house manager, a counselor, and now a cook in a drug and alcohol facility where she enjoys continuing to give back to programs in which she feels saved her life. Rose has struggled with finding her place of boundaries about her faith within the workplace. Rose stated that she has been reprimanded many times for sharing her faith with clients and feels that this is a travesty because the Jehovah’s Witness faith has been a part of saving her life and so has the facility in which she works for and one does not support the other.
