A corporate blog is a blog published by an organization with the agenda of supporting said organization’s goals. They offer a platform where information, knowledge, and opinion can be shared and traded among employees, customers, partners, and the media in a previously unimaginable way: a two-way, open exchange. The article sights several reasons for organizations to blog including:

* building stronger relations with target groups

* dispelling harmful rumors

* providing feedback

* providing ‘testing’ opportunities for new ideas or products

* better search engine placement

However, with there are drawbacks to corporate blogs including:

* keeping the blog updated

* allocating resources for its maintenance

* driving traffic to a blog requires not only time and consistently good content, but also marketing

The article warns that obvious attempts at self-promotion will not work and will turn audiences against the company.

I do not think it is possible for blogs to be unbiased when it comes to the maintenance of corporate blogs. If I were in charge of a corporate blog, I would limit the amount of negative content that was posted. Obviously, I would have to keep some disparaging comments on the blog, but the only ones I would keep up there were ones posted by obvious lunatics, or complaints that can be easily solved. Problems that have no solution along with complaints about products or services would be deleted for obvious reasons. It would be great if we lived in a world where everyone told the truth and companies were genuinely interested in their customers, but we all know that anything with a company logo on it must be taken with a grain of salt. For example, if a tobacco company were to release a study performed by their own scientists that claims it can prove cigarettes have no affect on lung cancer, no one would take that report seriously.
