The main topics covered in this article, titled: “The Economics of Violence: Are countries poor because they are violent or are they violent because they are poor?” are as follows: foreign economies, unemployment, and developing countries among other topics. The article expresses the effect that violence has on the rate of development and unemployment within various countries.

Experts are saying that violence is not only a cause of the suffering economy of many countries but it is becoming the primary cause of distress within the country. It seems that these countries such as Libya and Afghanistan are “trapped” in poverty and “trapped” in violence. It is also very important that the rich countries be generous and devote their time and money to the less developed countries in this world, according to the article. When examining the effect that violence has on an economy, statistics show that peaceful countries find it easier to dig their way out of economic troubles than countries that have faced recent civil wars, persistent violent crimes, and ethnic conflicts.

In the article, it is easy to trace the reasoning behind the economic distress that numerous countries face to not only civil wars but many other violent crimes. Sometimes, it is the smaller violent crimes that are persistent are more damaging than civil wars themselves.

The last half of the article illustrates that the lack of confidence in one’s country leads to violence which therefore leads to violence among the country. The prevention of violence should be focused on more by the leaders of the country so that violence doesn’t occur as often.

For the most part, I agree with the article and I can see the points that the author is making about the effect that violence has on the overall health of the country.
