Changing my lifestyle as it relates to eating habits will be challenging because of the lack of knowledge in nutrional values of different foods, food labels, Kcal, grams, etc. Although my diet on November 7, 2011 had a variety of foods, my iProfile Journal indicated that the intake for the day did not provide a healthful diet and activity report, especially at my age. The daily recommended intake (DRI) was not consumed in some of the food groups, but compared to the sample profile for Kelly Watson; my diet was much healthier. Therefore, my nutrional sense is off balance and my goal should be altering my eating habits as I study Nutrition.

On Monday, Nov 7th, 20ll I ate a bagel with cream cheese and drank about ten ounces of orange juice. My lunch consisted of a Weight Watchers meal with a glass of water. The day was completed eating steak, cabbage, fried corn mixed with cream style corn, and cornbread. This seemed very healthy to me, but according to my pyramid recommendations I still lacked a host of nutrients but overrepresented in others. For instance, I consumed more than a 100 % of protein, sodium, vitamin C, and iron. My vitamin D and calcium level was 0%, and at my age 46 this nutrient is essential.

Calcium, the most abundant mineral in the body, is found in some foods, added to others, available as a dietary supplement, and present in some medicines (such as antacids) (ODS, 2011). Calcium is required for vascular contraction and vasodilatation, muscle function, nerve transmission, intracellular signaling and hormonal secretion, though less than 1% of total body calcium is needed to support these critical metabolic functions [1] (ODS, 2011).
