1. Using the websites below as examples, how would you break down the continent of Africa into individual markets? Explain your approach in some detail.

Many company strategists regard Kenya as one entity and market to Africa without breaking out individual countries, languages, cultures, and governmental systems. Kenya has a very diverse population that includes three of Africa's major sociolinguistic groups: Bantu (67%), Nilotic (30%), and Cushitic (3%) (Background Note: Kenya). Kenya consists of eight provinces that import and export different resources. The eight provinces are Central, Coast, Eastern, Western, Rift Valley, Nyanza, Nairobi, and North Eastern. Investing in Kenya, does not just give access to the Kenyan market. Owing to Kenya’s membership of various regional trading blocks, an investment in Kenya provides access to the entire East African region. The emphasis here should be put on COMESA, which gives easy access to the entire Eastern and Southern regions of the African continent (Business Development Profile for Kenya). Central Province is a key producer of coffee and tea, one of Kenya's key exports. Much of Kenya's dairy industry is also based in this province. Nairobi is the capital of Kenya. Nairobi is now one of the most prominent cities in Africa politically and financially. It consists of over 100 major international companies and organizations. Nairobi is an established capital for business and culture. Kenya exported some US$3.4 billion worth of goods led by tea, horticultural products, coffee, petroleum products, fish and cement. They also imported about US$6.8 billion in commodities ranging from machinery, transportation equipment, petroleum products, motor vehicles, iron, steel and plastics.
