Workforce Discrimination

There are many different types of discrimination in the work place. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 guarantees that all employees are free from discrimination when it comes to their wages. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 also helps to protect against discrimination on the basis of national origin, age, disability, race, color sex and religion. This act helps to protect women or men against receiving different wages if they perform basically the same job. If a man and a woman have the same responsibilities, if they perform the same duties they the man can not make more than the women unless he has seniority or if the quantity or quality of the production is different, merit or any other factor besides the sex. (Duffy, 2007)

What is sex discrimination? Sex discrimination can occur when someone is treated differently because of their gender. It is not necessary for the discriminatory conduct to be sexual in nature for it to be classified as sexual discrimination. Sexual discrimination can be discrimination against, gender. There are many different examples of sex discrimination. Someone can be discriminated against because of their sex when hiring, firing, up for a promotion, wages and benefits just to name a few. Here are some examples of being discriminated against in those situations.

If you are a women and apply for a job and are completely qualified and even have experience, but you do not get hired because maybe some of the clients prefer to deal with men, then you are being discriminated against because of your sex. If for some reason you get laid off from a company and you are a women but men in the same job and less seniority gets to keep theirs, then you are being discriminated against. If you have had your eye on a big promotion at work and have applied for it but have been repeatedly denied but male employees...
