Why did Norma Rae decide to support the union

The very first reason that appears in the movie is that Norma was concerned about the health of her family, since it was a minimum paying job there wasn’t much she can do on her own for the betterment of her family’s health. She was very unsatisfied with the working conditions and lack of interest of the management of the cotton mill. She knew in future her kids will also work there and she wanted them to have a better working environment as compared to what she experienced. She also strongly wanted the workers to have one voice so they can be heard, she believed in collective bargaining therefore she was compelled to be a part of the union.

What mistakes were made by management or their representatives

The management was pressurizing the workers since they are the only main source of employment in that town. A New Yorker union representative came in town to persuade workers to join union so they can together ask for their rights which management did not wanted at all. Management also cut hours and wage, and workers had to work longer hours with less pay so they cannot go to the union meetings. I believe management took a very wrong approach thinking union is a threat for their mill, which most likely they were right about. They should have dealt with this uprising in an educated manner meaning they could have made committee within the mill to solve the basic problems of the workers to show some consideration. Instead they went aggressive which even promoted Norma to work for her goal and looking at her others joined in as well.

Did any unplanned action or event have a major impact

As it was shown many people worked in the mill their entire life and yet they were not satisfied with their jobs nonetheless they had to work there because they had no other choice. Wanting to quit the work but many were uncertain about the results, when Norma quits to leave the mill and climbs up the table...
