Media Literacy

Our lives have been shaped by many kinds of information and media. We have many approaches to enjoy our lives by these media and information while we may face many challenges and problems by them. So we need the media literacy to help us to navigate better in the media world so that we can get to information and media I want without becoming distracted by the media which harmful for us. We can control our lives rather than are controlled by the media.

This essay talks about how to use media literacy to help us control the media and how to use media literacy to utilize the media more efficiently from 4 aspects, including media addiction, building blocks in media, audience in media and media dimension.

Media addiction

It’s obvious that media is everywhere around our life. We can’t avoid obtaining the media and information consciously and automatically. If we are lack of media literacy, we could be addictive in media world easily. From my Issue Proposal “These website is addictive and time consuming. It’s not like being to alcohol or smoking, but it is a modern addition that has reached the young people and old alike over the world.” We use media everywhere, such as popular social network sites , which consume our time. People always spend a lot of time online instead of doing other meaningful activities you might have planned; less time spend on actual verbal and social interaction via person to person contact; Instead of reading authority and reliable resources, people like reading the resource in these website which are shared by others. The media literacy is a very useful tool that teaches us how to taking control in media world. Becoming more media literate gives us a much clearer perspective to see the border between my real world and world manufactured by the media.
