K& P Reflection
Reflection on K&P Chapters One & Two
After reading this text it has allowed me to realize my current leadership qualities and potential. I was able to tap into my potential while reading and reviewing The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, our previous leadership assignment.
I now realize the importance of the art of being a leader. Leading is an art form that many don’t express, however they have the ability to do so with a little confidence, encouragement, and a bit of motivation. Some leaders are born, however most are created. I have been created to encourage others.
It is also important to be a part of the team. In order for others to follow my lead I know I must be trustworthy and communicate my honesty to my team in a way that motivates them to see the bigger picture. With me the big picture is always results, positive results. Everyone has a driving factor in their lives that motivates them to succeed. It is important for me as a project manager to ensure my team recalls and remember what their driving factor is. This factor can be of a personal matter or even a professional standpoint. Everyone has a drive and as a professional I must be energetic enough to motivate that drive in an effort to get the job done efficiently and effectively.
One thing I have learned is no one wants to follow someone who is not always honest. That’s why it is best to do exactly what it is you say you will do. I do sometimes make promises to things and find that I don’t have time to keep these commitments. I usually come down on myself really hard when I find that I cannot live up to my word.
My solution to this issue is that I have to learn to say no. I have been known to be a people pleaser and that’s a characteristic I can account to from a personal position that is not healthy for me or for my relationships.
