ESSAY TOPICS

1. Globalisation

What is you opinion/attitude toward Globalisation. Start your essay with a clear statement of your position before you investigate this topic. Discuss globalisation within your group and review literature (e.g. articles on internet). Additionally design a research and collect the opinion of other people. Is your investigation objective? Did you change your statement/opinion?

2. Nature or Nurture?

Explain which personal traits are helpful in your intellectual and social life as a student. Which traits can be explained by nature (biological given) and which by nurture, the way you grew up. Describe the social structures you interacted with during your socialisation process and explain how it influenced you and explain the meaning of the word “self”.

3. Culture

Choose two cultures you are familiar with (you have experienced for a longer period). Analyse the different cultures using component of culture, culture unity and diversity and social structure. Describe a least one custom or tradition per culture that you find offensive (e.g. arrange marriages, active euthanasia). Determine your opinion and than investigate the opinion of other people. Did your opinion change?

4. Pollution

Analyse how students and young professionals nowadays look at the environmental issues that the world faces. What impact do environmental considerations have on daily life. Do you think that they would actually be giving up some of their personal wealth and/or happiness for the sake of ensuring a healthy nature and environment for future generations? How far would they go in this? Give some examples to support your answer.

5. Social Networks

Can personal friendship be replaced by "virtual" friends from for example Hyves or Facebook? Imagine you would never see these friends physically but only meet them in the virtual world is that friendship? What is your statement/opinion about the development of social networks and virtual friends?
