A. How were Pine Valley Furniture’s projects initiated? What is the focus for each of the new systems?

The qualities of the BEC’s that led to their success are the good management and interpersonal skills that they possess. The case study states that the company has grown through astute management of expansion and acquisitions into more than 2,000 stores in four countries. This leads me to believe that not only does the BEC have great management skills, but they are also offering a product that is in demand. They have learned to monopolize their product into making the public want them even more. I also feel that because of their knowledge of their clientele has led them to become successful in their chosen field.

B. Modify the Customer Tracking System’s economic feasibility analysis to reflect the modifications mentioned in this problem. Use a discount rate of 10 percent. After the changes are made , what are new overall NPV, ROI, and BEP?

The case study states that the BEC is a rapidly growing business with significant demand for information systems. The bigger the BEC company grows, so does the need for computer-based information. It seems that they have staffed their company to both build and maintain both their domestic and international needs. This is a great advantage because there is no need for them to hire external staff to help maintain a system that they have built. I feel that this is a great advantage and will only help them expand their system developments.

C. Modify the worksheet created in part b using discount rates of 12 and 14 percent. What impact do these values have on the overall NPV, ROI, and BEP?
