Communication in organizations encompasses all the means, both formal and informal, by which information is passed up, down, and across the network of managers, employees, outside and inside vendors, and patients (www.referenceforbusiness.com). Effective and efficient communication is the key to individual and business success, especially in the health care industry. The failure and dismantling of businesses had been due to the lack of communication among owners, management, staff and customers. It is important for businesses in the health care industry to create and organize a communication plan that involves management, employee, vendor, and customer feedback and criticism. In health care, the challenge is to channel the endless flow of communication so that they serve to improve customer service, boost employee satisfaction, build knowledge-sharing throughout the organization, and importantly, enhance the firm’s competitiveness.

Old school managers do not believe that employees can contribute anything useful to the operation of a company outside their unquestioning labor (www.referenceforbusiness.com). Employees should be involved with the problem solving strategies instead of management providing them with the solutions. This theory can help assure that employees consent to the process and take full responsibility for the outcome. It is very important for employees to be involved in this process from the start. In health care, it is important that the problem solving team should identify the obstacle that is preventing them from reaching their goal. Each employee should brainstorm and come up with a least one idea that can help overcome the problem. The health care management team should select one of the ideas and give it a fair try.
