Jail/Prison tour essay

Looking at the two locations that was visited you can see several things that would set them apart. When we visited OCCD it was mind blowing as far as the technology goes, They had a room that could control the entire facility. Not only could you control the whole jail but one of the aspect of the technology that was so good was when you can set a virtual trip wire at any location of the prison. I thought the technology was the best I’ve seen out of the two. The two facility was operated significantly different. When you enter into CFRC you can see there were more freedom given in my opinion. The inmates that was station on that compound could leave and walk to certain parts of the facility at certain time with out being supervised the entire way, Where as at OCCD you were monitored the whole way either by person or camera. The inmates at CFRC ate in a common hall with the other inmates from different facility on the prison whereas at OCCD the inmates had to eat in their cells. CFRC had three levels depending on the crime, they had a low, medium and high; they also housed children who would be charged as adults but that was also done at OCCD.

The main unit houses reception and orientation, permanents, medial staging, transient inmates. All inmates received for initial processing are received at the main unit transfer and receiving. I’m not sure if I herd this correctly but I think it was said that every inmate in Florida has to go to CFRC first then they would either be placed there or sent to a different location. CFRC only housed male inmates whereas at OCCD there was both male and female inmates. CFRC was the State of Florida’s second of four prototypical institutions. At CFRC we were told that some of the cells where smaller than what the actual size of a cell should be and that was due to the fact of when it was...
