At the very least, whistle-blowing can lead to a lot of hassle, as what Young said (2007). Some people just don't like it when someone reveals their evil deeds and they might just try to do something about it. Some go beyond what we call ‘immoral’ just for them to be able to save their face. We have watched television and have seen some writer's idea of what can happen to whistle-blowers. Many real-life stories abound as well.

People have lost their life, been intimidated, had their family or property threatened, lost a job and much more (Young, 2007). The author also added that whistle-blowing is not something to take lightly as the consequences can make this option unattractive and even dangerous.

A wise whistle-blower should document and research thoroughly which authorities to approach with the information. A wise whistle-blower will watch his back and should be able to seek support from others, may it be his co-workers or just any other third persons. A wise whistle-blower, as Young (2007) reiterated, will make sure she is correct in her accusations and seek out to make changes in a way that allows the rule-breaker a chance to make things right if possible.

There are concrete cases in which whistle-blowing can be very dreadful because of the increased pressure and threats. One scenario happened in Iraq war, a United Kingdom case: Whistleblower: Expert in weapons of mass destruction Dr. David Kelly; Dr. Kelly told a BBC reporter in an anonymous interview that he believed that the report presented by the security services in the U.K. to the Prime Minister Tony Blair was exaggerated in order to justify military action in Iraq.  After several investigations, government found that the author of that comments was Dr. Kelly. Immediately after this, they began a campaign in order to destroy Dr. Kelly's reputation.
