Week 5 Simulation

JVA Corp. is experiencing an economic downturn and has suffered a 17% drop in revenue since the start of the current recession. As Human Resource Manager it is my duty to make recommendations that will not only benefit the company but also be in the best interest of all of JVA employees. In order to avoid closure of our international factories, I believe that our best option would be to review and make any necessary changes to the guidelines for performance management within JVA Corp. As businesses change their focus, so should compensation change as well. We should first review the mission and goals for JVA Corp and then review the requirement of each employee. A review of compensation packages is also necessary to evaluate commission packages, expenses covered, perks and necessity of onsite amenities that are currently covered.

As it stands, JVA Corps employees are mainly hourly employees that are eligible for bonuses based on the number of goods produced and the number of goods marketed. Therefore, performance management plays a huge role in the setting of goals and evaluating employee performance. Periodic reviews help supervisors gain a better understanding of each employee’s abilities. It is a review and discussion of an employee’s performance. This concept is basically a merit based system and works well at motivating employees. However, I believe that we can further increase employee performance and appreciation while at the same time saving the jobs of our international employees during this difficult time.

After review of the current employee compensation program, I would consider alternatives that would make an immediate impact on revenue. I would consider putting a freeze on all overtime within the company for at least one year. I would also suggest a profit sharing based compensation package.
