Subject: Changing Focus to Networking Solutions
Synergetic Solutions, Inc. main business was system integration, however that market had declined. To keep Synergetic Solutions, Inc. moving forward the company expanded into designing and implementing complex computing networks, which then accounted for 20% of the entire revenues. Because of this success, the organization decided to expand the networking solutions business to 80% of the total sales.
The external forces that brought about the need for the change were competition, technology, and economic. The competition had depleted the system integration market and with the new technology available there was a new market created for implementing complex computing networks. With the declining market, the company was not going to be able to continue to show profits. There had to be a change made or the economic factors would be the end of Synergetic Solutions. The external forces started the need for change, but the internal forces contributed as well.
The internal forces were skilled labor, organizational culture, and employee morale. A large project coming in, that was essential to the success of the business, came faster than anticipated and there were not enough skilled employees to handle the workload. To encourage the current employees to learn new skills, the organization changed the culture from individualist to team oriented. Once the change was made the final obstacle was to increase employee morale by making their contributions recognized through growth opportunities and ownership over the process.
