In this case study it describes how an individual can go through a life changing situation due to the fact of how the cohort effects that generation.   Bob was born between 1966 and 1975, he is considered to be labeled as the Xer's generation.   He had graduated from college and had a job as an analyst for a health -care IT consultant.   He is now working for half the pay he was a couple of years ago. Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs states within every individual there are needs to be fulfilled for an individual to be motivated.   The five needs are physiological, safety, social, esteem, self-actualization “as each of these needs becomes substantially satisfied, the next need becomes dominant". Maslow had categorized these five needs into two groups, low order needs and high order needs.   The lower order needs are described to satisfy the individual externally: physiological and safety needs. The higher order needs are to satisfy   the individual internally: social, esteem and self-actualization needs.  

Bob has fulfilled the low order needs in the hierarchy by graduating college and finding a good paying job. Bob has also fulfilled the higher order needs by moving up in the company as chief technology officer making $80,000 a year. Bob had reached the top need of the hierarchy of " self-actualization:   the drive to become what one is capable of becoming".

Analyzing Bob's lack of motivation by using the organizational justice and expectancy theory we will be able to pin point where his motivation started to decrease.   Organizational Justice is defined as an overall perception of an individual of what is fair in the workplace.   There are three justices in the model of organizational justice .   Distributive Justice: as perceived fairness of outcome   Procedural Justice: Perceived fairness of process used to
