Father Cyrus and son Cambyses of Persia were one of the most powerful people in the 500BC to 350BC time. They controlled vast amount of lands from Europe to Asia known as the Persian Empire. Who are these two individuals Cyrus and Cambyses, what do they have in common and what are their differences.

Let’s talk about the differences of Cyrus and Cambyses. Father Cyrus seems to be a more relaxed kind of person than his son Cambyses who is more of a hot head. Why is Cyrus a relaxed individual because in all of his decision he always contacts the oracle for its final say by asking the oracle if the decision he makes are going to be good or not. In the other hand his son Cambyses seems to be a more of a quick action person than regrets his actions later on. An example of this can be is when Cambyses ordered his servants the kill Croesus over an argument and then he regrets killing him. The fact is that the servants did not kill Croesus because the servants already know that Cambyses has a quick temper, so they hide Croesus in a room and when Cambyses starts to miss Croesus the servants brings him back. Cambyses was furious that the servants did not follow his orders so he kills them without thinking, instead of thanking. Another difference between father and son is that Cyrus is a charismatic popular figure in Persia unlike his son Cambyses who is unliked by many. What brought Cyrus to his throne were his charisma and his popularity among the people of Persia. In the book, Herodotus tells the readers that Cyrus was popular and liked by many. Cyrus charismatic side brought him to the throne, he told his people to revolt with a letter and with his passionate speech and the people of Persia revolted with him which brought down the median empire with Croesus. We can see that Cyrus was a calm man because he did not kill Croesus but made him live at the court because Cyrus knew that Croesus would be an important asset for him.
