Robert E. Lee

I am covering Life of General Robert E. Lee written by G. Mercer Adams. This book was copyrighted in 1905 by A.L. Burt Company and has 321 pages. The purpose of this book is to write a record of the Life and Career of General Robert E. Lee, the great commander of the Southern Army in the Civil War. (Adam, 1905) This book begins with an introductory chapter that goes over general information on Robert E. Lee's life. The different aspects that are covered are the Mexican war, the interval between the Mexican war and the war for the union, the opposing forces preparing for conflict, the campaign against pope in northern Virginia and the second battle of bull run, the Maryland campaign, the Fredricksburg campaign and the edict of emancipation, the Chancellorsville campaign and battle, the second invasion of the North and the Battle of Gettysburg, the Wilderness campaign, the operations on the south side of the James River and the siege of Petersburg, the Autumn of 1864 and the Winter of 1864-65, the Operations in Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas in the Winter of 1864-65, the close of the Long struggle, the retirement from Petersburg and Richmond, the Surrender at Appomattox, when General Lee is installed as President of Washington College, and the Evening Shadows and his Death.
