When the benefits outweigh the cost, is there a reason not to implement a system which would increase the safety of a nation? Creating a National ID System would increase government proficiency with dealing with residents who may be a threat to society, bring a gradually end to racial profiling, and all in all benefit our nation.

People are hassled by government officials simply because of their ethnicity and beliefs everywhere we look. Creating a National ID System will help bring an end to this. Grayson Barber, in his article " Would National ID Cards Increase Safety and Preserve Civil Liberties?" shows an example in which it help be beneficial. He shares a scenario saying, " If an airline passenger has dark skin, for example, and an Islamic-sounding last name, he or she could simply flash the card and avoid being hassled at the airport " (Source A.) While those who do not carry their National ID Card, as it would be law, can be further questioned and those who are law-abiding minorities can go along without the humiliation of being singled out. This card would only have to be carried when going to locations with a high risk to terrorism, " Such as airports and government buildings…Anyone who did not show such a card would be subject to far more intrusive inquires" (Source B). The minor discomfort to being required to carry a national ID card is much greater than that brought on by racial profiling.

" Under current law, if you're pulled over while driving, the police can only check to see if your car is stolen or if there are any warrants outstanding for your arrest" (Source A). But with a national ID Card, the police can have all your information and those who are law-abiding citizens will have no problem, but it would assist the police with catching criminals though. Many criminals also flee prison and since they are aware that they will eventually be caught and will have a hard prison sentence for their ravenous behavior, they commit additional...
