Starbucks

Starbucks is a passionate and ethical coffee store that takes pride in serving many varieties of the best tasting coffees around. Starbucks is the type of company that is fully engaged in “connecting with, laughing with and uplifting the lives of their customers – even if just for a few moments.” They believe that “it starts with the promise of a perfectly made beverage, but their work goes far beyond that, it’s really about human connection” (Starbucks Coffee, 2009).

Learning Team C will show the role of ethics and compliance that Starbucks have in their financial environment, they will describe the procedures Starbuck have in place to ensure their ethical behavior. Team C will also identify processes that Starbucks uses to comply with the SEC regulations. They will also evaluate Starbucks financial performance during the last two years, using ratios for liquidity, solvency, profitability, and EPS. Finally Team C will discuss the trends for each ratio of liquidity, solvency, profitability, EPS, and tell what it says about Starbucks financial health. They will answer if they would invest in Starbucks and why.

The definition of ethics is the moral principles that governs a person’s or a group’s behavior. Starbucks is the type of company that demonstrates that type of moral ethical behavior toward their customers as well as their employees. Their Mission Statement says “Our missions are to inspire and nurture the human spirit, one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time” (Starbucks Coffee, 2009).

Their mission statement alone shows the type of environment that they strive to have. They want their customers and employees to have a happy and enlightening experience. They empower their employees to deliver excellent customer service, expecting them to do the right thing and conduct business with integrity, while assuring them that they are fully supported by Starbucks.
