A Public Officer and the Public

A public officer is the icon of security to the community. It is his duty to make people feel as though he is the blanket of protection against all wrong doing. The relationship between a community and a public officer is not just the basic friendship; it demonstrates the bond in security, protection, and determination.

The number one duty of a public officer is to be honest with every person that crosses his path. He has to be able to gain the trust from the people that he is going to protect. They have to feel as though he can truly be honest in any situation that endangers their security. If the public officer delays the actions needed to protect the community he is not going to have the trust from the community. It is his duty to keep all law-breakers off the streets and keep his community safe. When the public officer does his duties as required, the public is able to reach out their hand in need of help.

The emotions that the public feels are very wide ranged. Those that break the law might feel as though they are always being watched. Those that do their part in keeping the community safe will have a great feeling of safety and protection from the officers. There will finally be tranquility in the places that the crime rate may be high. Being able to depend on the officers for protection and for their honesty will not only keep the community calm, but the officers as well.

In a neighborhood, in which everyone knows each other, there have been a series of break-ins into the vehicles. As a precaution the neighborhood management puts a local officer to keep watch that week. On one of those nights the officer spots someone suspicious and when approaching notices that the suspicious person is indeed the thief he was set out to catch. Hearing this great news of the thief’s capture the neighborhood can finally lie to sleep in peace at night.
