Ethics are moral principles or values that govern the conduct of an individual or a group. Ethics are important in businesses, society and academics as well because that’s what they are built of. "Ethics are personal and, at the same time, a very public display of your attitudes and beliefs. It is because of ethical beliefs that we humans may act differently in different in situations" (University of Phoenix, 2007). Ethical behavior is what all career people should have in all businesses. It also differentiates between right and wrong. In respect to that; this case deals with ethical behavior when dealing with selling products for a profit. There are certain rules to follow in a business. In this instance it is wrong to send images or copyright of a company to a competitor without their knowledge of it.

It was very unethical for Normandale to sell the alleged knock off products at a lower price, especially to a competitor. A counterfeit product is defined as a product that has been illegally duplicated to appear identical to the genuine product (Ha &Lennon, 2006). Ethically, Normandale knew it was wrong to have someone else produce a counterfeit product and try to resale it for a lower price. Mathis has a right to complain and sue because illegal conduct was conducted by Normandale. If Mathis would’ve done this to Normandale, he would do the same thing.

A violation is kind of like a breach in law because it’s not to be broken. The ethical violations that Normandale committed were illegal conduct because he engaged in unlawful activity by selling knock off products. He also didn’t let Mathis know that this exchange was taken into effect. When ethical violations are committed, many people need to be punished for their wrong doing. Compared to that, the violation that was committed was not only breaking the rules of their own business but selling the knock off product at a lower price for their own personal gain.
