Aim
To investigate how much of the school field was covered by grass
Apparatus
* Quadrat
* 2 partners
Variables
Independent Variable
Belt of field chosen
Dependent Variable
Percentage of grass cover
Controlled Variables
* Size of quadrat (100 blocks)
* Distance between two belts
* Number of readings per belt
Method
1. Place the quadrat on one edge of the field, such that one end is on the side of the field
2. By counting the number of squares the grass has covered in the quadrat estimate the percentage of grass cover in that particular area
3. Flip the quadrat vertically so that it covers the next 0.5 metres of the field
4. Repeat step 2
5. Repeat steps 2-4 until you reach the end of the field
6. Measure a distance of 15 metres along the edge of the field by flipping the quadrat 30 times horizontally and then again start taking your readings for the next belt
7. Record your observations in a table
