Bilingualism in Education and Politics.

Bilingualism in education is an issue with a few different views; I personally seem to fall back on the old time issue of how our ancestors had to learn English to be able to get into this country through Ellis Island in the earlier years. I also can understand how it is easier for a person to learn using language that they were brought up on at home before reaching school age, but again it refers back to if you want to be in this country you should be able to understand the language as we would be expected to know the language in another country. From reading and researching or text and some other sources I am inclined to believe that if students are allowed to learn through their native language they would learn easier than if forced to learn everything in our language and only our language. When I was in school many years ago we had to pick a second language as an elective, but we had a choice, not like being forced to learn a different language to survive, if students are allowed to learn in their native tongue and then work their way into English courses that seems to be more positive learning experience and a greater over all solution.

Bilingualism in politics presents a whole different set of issues ranging from some believing that language does not bond our country together and others who believe that a common language is needed to keep us diversified, along with these issues is the pros and cons of our government in presenting important papers and ballots in different languages, the issues of funding for bilingual education or making English the official language, and the use of federal funding for these issues. Some people are led to believe that one side of the political world wants ballots and important information made available in different languages such as Spanish so as to gain political opposition against the other side of the political world that wants to cut and abolish program geared toward Spanish...
