DEFENCE’S THEORY OF THE CRIME

Leading up to the time before Hannah Wilson willingly committed suicide; Joshua James lived life as any average 18 year old would. He spent time with friends and family, he was on pace to obtaining his secondary school diploma, and he pursued relationships inside and outside of the classroom.

The reasons why Hannah Wilson committed suicide are not due to the actions portrayed by Joshua James. In fact, Joshua was a moral support for Hannah leading up to her grief passing. He constantly spoke in a positive manner towards her, and listened to what she had to say to him.

Joshua James gave to Hannah Wilson a sense of importance. He opened himself up to her and offered Hannah his support.

The situation in her life that affected Hannah Wilson the most was her father’s alcohol addiction. Daily, she would have to take orders from her drunken father and listen to him degrade her emotionally. In addition, her father physically abused her. This physical abuse put Hannah over the edge, and ultimately led her to take her own life.

The emotional and physical trauma caused by Hannah’s father, Manuel Wilson, upon her was the main reason why she also suffered from Dysthymia; a minor depressive disease. This disease tore through Hannah mentally and emotionally during the months leading up to her death.

This disease was uncontrollable due to the suffering her father caused her.

Over 90% of people who die by suicide have a mental illness at the time of their death. The most common mental illness is depression and in effect, untreated depression is the number one cause for suicide.

The final point to be made is that Joshua James never did threaten Hannah Wilson’s life or aid the victim to commit suicide.
