Mission: We aim to apply the organizational behavior theory to Lora Gray’s case to try to understand people’s behavior and to find out what could have been done to improve the situation.

Apprication of perception process

Perception is the process of receiving information about and making sense of the world around us. During study we found that people’s perception of the world follows some certain pattern including the following steps: (1) receiving information from environment (2) selective attention (3) selective attention is influenced by assumptions and conscious anticipation of future events.

Analysis: (1) stimuli

Perception begins when environmental stimuli are received through our senses. In this case, the writer stood in the position of Lora. So almost all the descriptions based on Lora’s senses. So we can only analysis Lora’s perception process. Lora received the following stimuli through her senses:

Feeling: since the interview, she has felt that Rashad was “keen on her”. After she received her success on the publication, “she had a nagging suspicion that Rasha was somewhat envious of the attention she was receiving”.

Hearing: “Lora had been warned by some of her colleagues that Rashad had a habit of drastically changing his management style”. This hearing makes Lora feel threaten of the coming change. Soon, she heard that “he went around the Centre and openly denounced it as being doomed for her failure”.

Seeing: Lora witnessed an example of Rashad’s change. Sheila, who was a clerk hired and treated nicely by Rashad in the beginning, could not get her promotion although she was more than qualified.

Analysis: (2) selective attention
