Juvenile Delinquency

Abstract

The cause of Juvenile delinquency can very well be associated with many factors,

including Biochemical (includes, diet, vitamin intake, hormonal imbalance, or food allergies), Neurological (includes ADD, ADHD, chemical imbalances, and Testosterone), Genetic (including delinquency of parents, twin behavior, sibling behavior, and parent-child comparisons (Cenage learning center 2010). According to Albert Bandura that aggressive behavior is learned through a process called Behavior Modeling. He believed that children do not actually atone to violent tendencies; but they are modeled after three principles (Bandura, 1976: p.204). He also argued that Juveniles learn their deviant behavior by the observance of others, i.e. parents, peers, media, and the environment (Isom. 1998). The two case studies below clearly reflect that these various issues can be directly related to different theories on the specific causes for Juvenile delinquency.

Case Study Justin

Justin living in a poor neighborhood and coming from a broken home was recently arrested by the police for stealing. Despite the fact that he loves going to school; it has become rather difficult for him to continue attending as he assist his mother in caring for his younger siblings. As a result of his mother working a few jobs, he has recently become affiliated with a local gang, in an attempt to help his mother financially.
