There were three professionals present at Star’s IEP; Ms. Brown-a Special Education teacher, Mrs. Rouviere-a speech language pathologist, and Ms. McNeil- an Interpreter. These three individuals make up Star’s main IEP team that will interact with Star on a daily basis. The work these three individuals do with Star (and one another) will affect Star’s development, and achievements.

Ms. Brown is Star’s Special Education teacher. Ms. Brown is the person who gets Star ready for the day ahead. To prepare for the day, Ms. Brown has Star complete morning work, make a lunch choice, and put her (Star’s) belongings away. As a Special Education teacher, Ms. Brown, works closely with Star’s regular classroom teacher to keep Star on the same subject matter the class is learning. Ms. Brown also works closely with Star’s speech-language pathologist, interpreter, and para. The special education teacher is the person who reinforces, and includes in the special needs student’s lessons, what the other members of the IEP team are working on with the student. Ms. Brown works closely with Star’s IEP team and knows the expectations of each team member for Star. Ms. Brown adjusts the curriculum for Star to incorporate what the other team members are focusing on for Star to learn, and accomplish.

The Speech-Language Pathologist, Mrs. Rouviere, works with Star to help her (Star) learn how to pronounce speech sounds correctly, and clearly. She also helps Star learn the proper pitch and voice (non-harsh sounding) to use in communicating with others. Mrs. Rouviere will also teach Star communication skills- such as how to correctly put thoughts/ideas into the proper words, and sentences.

Ms. McNeil is Star’s interpreter. Ms. McNeil works closely with the special education teacher Ms. Brown. Ms. McNeil and Ms. Brown share with one another the work that each has Star complete. Ms. McNeil teaches Star sign language and makes sure that Star fully understands what other members of...
