This a statement prepared for negotiation class

Strengths, Weaknesses and Goals

I like to begin by discussing my strengths and the factors that may have had impact on them

First, Even though I have never considered myself as an affective negotiator, who walks away what he sets his heart on nor have been a business person to have involved in a lot of business arrangements, but I worked as a teacher more than two years in a high school, which has taught me that if I am not ready for the class I teach, the questions I may receive ( just because the students may want to test me) I may have to face long-lasting consequences, which is usually trying to gain students’ respect back, and not being able effectively lead the class. So I had to be ready and well prepared. Even if I am not ready or I don’t have knowledge of a particular question that I am asked, I always had something in mind to turn the situation around and not let the students shake my authority and confidence. Considering that as a negotiator, one of my most important strengths is my awareness of the fact that preparation in advance is crucially important to develop my strategies, and to gain leverage and power in order to convince the counterparty.

Second,(Avoiding) I usually tend to speak clearly and plainly and direct about my argument so that we have efficient communication and this, I believe, gives a positive impression about my personal integrity. I am a low avoider, (as the book states and according to test given in the book), and if I believe that my argument has a strong foundation, i.e. I am right, I am not afraid of interpersonal conflict. Although sometimes I receive negative feedback I like to speak directly. I have been told that I can become so stubborn and even a little offensive time to time but I do not really believe that this is a disadvantage because representing my arguments clearly, knowing what I want, and telling them directly allow me gain people’s trust...
