I Introduction
HSBC Holdings PLC has followed the road of becoming the champion and not just a contender in the finance and insurance industry. The rapid changes in the world create threats and opportunities in this borderless world. Founded in Hong Kong in 1865 to finance the growing trade between Europe, India and China, its presence is well known in 85 countries and territories and its billion dollars of shares are listed in the Hong Kong, London, New York Stock, Paris and Bermuda stock exchanges. HSBC Holdings was established in 1990 to become the parent company to The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. This preparation targeted the purchase Midland Bank and a change of domicile for the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong. Only a hand full of financial institutions ventured abroad which included Citigroup, Standard Chartered and HSBC. HSBC is currently Europe's largest bank and has a massive operational base in Asia including lending, investment, and insurance activities around the world. HSBC Holdings PLC has set an international footprint across the globe that is incompatible with other banking or financial multinationals. Through its advances in technology HSBC presents its customers with a broad spectrum of financial services including personal financial services and investment banking. With its origin and expansion into foreign markets, managing this company has come across with many obstacles and opportunities to prosper throughout the centuries. HSBC has understood the opportunities of having a truly ‘global presence’ which brings profitability and sustainability.
