1.1 Brief description of task

The objective of our task was to be able to build a card tower as high as we could. We were allowed to use any method we liked and the equipment available was playing cards and paper clips. We were given 10 minutes to decide on how we were going to fulfil the task and then 8 minutes to build our card tower. There were four members in my team; Myself, Hayley, Neil and Clive.

2.1 Identifying Team Functions

For a Team to be able to fulfil all of its functions it must be able to identify the necessary mix of knowledge, skills and experience. I am going to look at each of these individually.

2.2 Knowledge

As a Team Leader you must be able to highlight knowledge that team members already have. This will help to strengthen your ability to fulfil your objectives.

It may be knowledge about that subject purpose, for example if your team purpose is to highlight errors when orders are picked and packed do you have someone with knowledge of quality? They would be able to indicate methods to use to fulfil the objectives of the team.

By putting members into a team together that have a different knowledge mix you will create new knowledge and ideas as the team works through each stage of its purpose.

In my team I was the team leader and it was my job to determine what my team knew about the task of how to achieve the task. By asking direct open questions I was able to find out that I was the only one with knowledge of building card towers.

2.3 Skills
