Four Yoga Path and Jainism Worksheet Paper
Introduction
Outline in this paper we are going discuss the various differences that exit between the Hindu and Jain religion. The differences in the various scriptures of the two religions will also be explained.
Although similar in some concepts such as karma and reincarnation, Jainism developed as an opposition to certain beliefs of Hinduism. The caste system, sacrificing of animals in rituals and the belief in a creator of the universe are but a few concepts of indifferences. Hindus believe in a religious system of multiple universal gods, whereas an adherent of Jainism believes that the universe is a motion of natural forces and strive for the simplicity of religion.
The Vedas being the ancient scripture the Hindu religion contains information about the various gods and how one can obtain total freedom from the vicious circle birth and rebirth thus gaining the state of Brahma, whereas the Jain adherents recognizes the Purvas which in its entirety exist no longer. The various sects of Jainism especially the Sthanakavasis recognize no literature to be scripture within its entirety. The Puja on the other hand that is offered to the gods and tirthankaras have been embraced by majority of Jain followers.
Although Hinduism encourages it members to seek sannyasin, the state of nonattachment, it also inspires and have veneration for the attainment of worldly goals (moksha) being the highest level attainable. Jainism on the other hand encourages nonattachment to worldly possessions.
Conclusion
Outlined in this paper we have addressed the major differences between Hinduism and Jainism. The practices and believes of both religions have been addressed
