The business world is changing rapidly and is becoming more volatile. These change ranges from the introduction of new technologies, and the external and internal environment of an organization. One of the most important factors in the functioning and management of an organization, and for an organization to stay competitive in this present age depends heavily on technology, management style, and organization structure. According to Daft, J. (2010), “the world is changing more rapidly than ever before, and managers are responsible for positioning their organization to adapt to new needs.” (p. 7). Over the years, researchers have studied various types of organization structures and designs, and how it has contributed to the effectiveness and its efficiencies in transforming it resources into products, while at the same time maximizing profits. Example of the researchers who contributed to the changes in the traditional form of organization design and structure is Joan Woodward, and Charles Perrow. These scholars studied the importance of technology in organization structure and performance. Daft, R (2010), defined technology as “the work process, techniques, machines, actions used to transform organization inputs (materials, information, ideas) into outputs (products and services.” (p. 253). The following paragraphs will discuss the analysis of the Toyz manufacturing company, by applying both the Woodward’s Model and contemporary technology, and Perrow’s framework for departmental technology.
