People speak of myths in everyday life and on a daily basis. I know when we have family gatherings, myths are spoke of quite frequently. When we speak of them we are talking about stories that were passed down from my great grandparents, that I am sure over the years have been changed in some way, and that we continue to tell generations of kids in our family. When we usually speak about myths, or the way it’s so popularly done, is speaking about stories that people found important in nature that they want others to know a lot about. When I hear “it is a myth”, I believe that it means that it is a story that has some truth to it, is spoken of my many people because the myth was usually of heroic, historic or religious nature and that people value or thinking very highly of. When someone says “it is a myth”, I think most people take it as something that isn’t true or made up but there are a lot of myths that I believe have some or a lot of truth to them. In an academic context, I believe that it is a traditional or legendary story that usually has to do with a hero or phenomenal event but isn’t exactly proven to be a fact.

Many different cultures around the world address a number of similar themes. I believe there are many reasons why this is true and one of them is because myths explain the unexplainable, which everyone is always curious or eager to find out. Things such as reasons for crisis and miracles, what is going to happen to a person after death, I believe they also find a way to reveal the world to people, when it comes to things that people sometimes don’t understand. Myths also have created role models for people, in a way of their own. Some of the myths of heroes in the past, for each culture it would be different, but everyone likes and enjoys having someone to look up to or that they would like to be like one day.
