Decisions in Paradise part III

The last in a three part scenario in which Royal Robbins wants to create a manufacturing facility in Kava. The utilization of resources available on the island, importing construction materials, and manufacturing machinery, and the ethical standards of the company, are the main objectives in this decision-making model.

Kava represents a possible solution to the backlog of production at our Middle East manufacturing facilities. The first problem identified was the construction of a manufacturing facility (Guthrie, 2011). The initial decision was to use Kava natives and materials for construction. To utilize the Kava native work force for construction of the facility, we analyzed the pros and cons (Mc Dermott, n.d.). The pros are the quality of workmanship is abundant, the workforce needed is available, and the economy of the local community and island is in need of the additional monetary gain. The cons are, natural disasters need to be addressed, some of the workforce is under aged and needs to be managed to ensure their education does not suffer.

The use of native construction materials was also part of the initial decision-making plan. The company used an intuitive model for this stage of the process (Mc Dermott, n.d.). There are native resources for construction such as palm leaves and proms for roofing, bamboo for some structure and flooring needs. The company would need to work with local governments to ensure that these resources are used in a judicious and environmentally sound manner. During the final phases of construction development, the construction team decided to import metal roofing to decrease the chances of fire from possible lighting strikes and possible hot ash falling from volcanic eruptions.
